Festive, chewy Rice Krispie treats featuring red, white, and blue M&Ms with a candy melt drizzle and sprinkles, perfect for Fourth of July celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 7 to 8 cups mini marshmallows (reserve about 1 cup for later)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of kosher salt (omit if using salted butter)
  • Rice Krispies cereal (amount sufficient to make 7-8 cups cereal coated with marshmallow mixture, approximate 6 cups)
  • Red, white, and blue M&Ms (quantity to taste, sufficient for even distribution in mixture)
  • Wilton candy melting wafers in red, blue, and white (optional, for drizzle)
  • Festive sprinkles (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. On low heat, melt 6 tablespoons butter in a large saucepan.
  3. Add 7 to 8 cups mini marshmallows (reserve about 1 cup) and stir gently until fully melted and smooth.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract and a pinch of kosher salt (if using unsalted butter).
  5. Fold in the Rice Krispies cereal and the reserved 1 cup mini marshmallows until evenly coated.
  6. Carefully fold in red, white, and blue M&Ms until evenly distributed.
  7. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and use a lightly buttered spatula or wet fingertips to gently press the mixture down without packing it too tightly.
  8. Let the treats cool and set at room temperature for 30 to 60 minutes.
  9. If using candy melts, melt the wafers according to package directions, drizzle over the set treats, and sprinkle with festive sprinkles while the drizzle is still soft.
  10. Allow the candy drizzle and sprinkles to harden, then cut the treats into squares.
