Festive and easy-to-make chocolate-covered cherries decorated with red, white, and blue sprinkles, perfect for summer gatherings and holidays.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh cherries with stems on
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or vegetable oil
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles
  • Optional: Red food-grade glitter or edible sparkle spray for extra shine

Instructions

  1. Rinse cherries and pat completely dry, rolling them between paper towels in small batches to remove all moisture.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper.
  3. Combine chocolate chips and coconut (or vegetable) oil in a microwave-safe bowl.
  4. Heat chocolate in 30-second bursts, stirring well after each until smooth, then let it cool until warm but not too runny.
  5. Alternatively, melt chocolate in a double boiler over simmering water, stirring constantly and keeping steam/water out.
  6. Hold each cherry by the stem and dip it halfway (or fully, if desired) into the melted chocolate, twist as you pull up and let excess drip off for an even coating.
  7. Immediately sprinkle red, white, and blue sprinkles onto the wet chocolate or dip the chocolate side into a bowl of sprinkles.
  8. Place decorated cherries onto the prepared parchment-lined sheet.
  9. Optionally mist cherries with edible sparkle spray or brush lightly with simple syrup and sprinkle edible glitter for extra shine.
  10. Chill the tray in the fridge for 20 to 30 minutes until the chocolate is fully set and firm.

Notes

Semi-sweet chocolate provides a balance of sweetness and tartness, making it kid-friendly and appealing to adults; dark chocolate offers a richer, more intense flavor but can overpower the cherries if used excessively., Do not use frozen or maraschino cherries directly, as extra moisture can cause chocolate to seize or coatings to become soft., Store dipped cherries in a single layer inside an airtight container lined with wax paper, keep chilled, and consume within 24 hours for best texture and freshness., To transport, keep cherries chilled in a cooled container or cooler and avoid leaving them out at room temperature for extended periods to maintain chocolate snap., Optional decorations include food-grade glitter or sparkle spray for a shiny finish., For vegan/dairy-free options, substitute dairy-free chocolate and use vegetable oil.
